I've written previously about our plan to build a chook pen under our cubby house, where the sandpit used to be. Well, I can report that progress is well and truly underway.
Rod has taken on the role of builder and, true to form, has been doing a PERFECT job. His mantra is, and has always been, 'If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well.'
This chook pen would win awards for craftsmanship. I mean look at those right angles...
The plan is for the chooks (from here on referred to as 'the girls') to have their outdoor scratching and pecking area in the old sandpit and then their nesting box and roost in a timber boxed area off the end of the cubbyhouse. With a little ramp leading up to it. Awww.
Rod has been constructing this nesting/ roosting area.
Perfectly square, of course, and level, of course.
We painted yesterday.
And made our mark on the egg collection door.
Oh yes, it will be a masterpiece. Nothing less for the girls than Chooktopia. Rod's sister thinks we should consider only white chooks so that they match their home. Not a bad idea. Something I wouldn't be opposed to. Maybe two white and one black... am I over thinking this? NEVER! When it comes to this chookpen, more is more.
I'll keep you posted.
