With emphasis on the first 'you'... Who do YOU think you are? I love this show. I've watched the UK series where 'celebrities' (I have problems with that word) trace their family history and look into the lives and stories of their ancestors. It's often quite confronting and emotional for them, and they're surprised by these feelings.
There is now an Australian series on SBS and the other night I watched Christine Anu's story. She's just such a lovely, honest, genuine person and she found the search for her ancestors very emotional (so did I, it was a great show). I knew what she was feeling... almost guilty for not having found out sooner... feeling like she had neglected her family's past, turned her back, shut it out. Perhaps, like me, she had put tracing her history on her 'to-do' list and it never got to the top. Until now.
I loved it when she cried into her scarf at the cemetery on a Torres Strait island. I just wanted to give her a cuddle. It was so moving.
If you haven't watched it, you must. Here's the link. It's about a 50 minute show, so have the kids in bed a cup of tea in hand before you click.
Thankyou for sharing your story with us, Christine. I think you're wonderful.
