Oh dear.
I wrote about my mother's garden here, which I've always admired. And I mentioned how I hadn't realised how hard it was to keep a beautiful garden (a 'live' garden) until I had my own piece of dirt. The maintenance is continuous. I think I'd really enjoy gardening, but it just hasn't come up high enough on my to-do list for me to get into it. Maybe this year, the year I turn 40, would be a good time to start.
Anyway, I visited my sister in law's garden through the week and OH MY GOODNESS have I got some work to do!
In the middle of an orange farm she has created a oasis of plants and sculptures... with more projects planned.
There are beautiful places to sit...
Eye catching ornaments hanging from the trees....
.... with Orange trees in rows behind...
... beauty at every turn.
A few galas...
...some quiet corners...
.... green and floral archways...
...leading to stone bird baths and peaceful seats.
Olives!! We had the pleasure of eating the olives from this tree last year after they'd been brined and bottled by an Italian neighbour. Just delicioius.
And there are more plans in the works involving large terracotta pots....
So you can see the type of garden I'm seeing and the type of garden I aspire to. Perhaps I'm setting my sights too high. Maybe I should start by keeping a pot plant alive for more than a few months. I'll try that.
