Tom's class has swimming lessons in the school pool twice a week and I go in to help for the monday class. In the first lesson last week most of the kids did really well. There were some tears, some petrified screams, some fearful faces (thankfully not from my child, I was too occupied wiping other's tears). The half hour flew and before I knew it I was supervising 12 five year old boys changing from wet swimmers to dry clothes.
I was saying things like, 'Wet swimmers off FIRST, then dry off, THEN undies on.' And, 'Leave your dry uniform in your bag until you need it, try NOT to drop DRY CLOTHES on the WET FLOOR.' They were all very independent. You know, big boys at the pool.

The PE teacher, Mr B, could be picked from a line up as a PE teacher. He just has that outdoorsy lets-climb-that-mountain look about him.
The first lesson was the basics of floating and blowing bubbles. Twenty five 5 year olds were sitting on the edge of the pool with feet dangling in the water.
Mr B: 'Put your hand up if you think you are heavier than me.'
Fifteen hands went up, and one from a mum (which was actually very funny. Wish I thought of doing it. Funny).
Mr B: 'Well, ok then. If I lie my body out on the top of the water will I float or will I sink to the bottom?'
Class: *in sing-song unison* 'You will sink to the bottom.'
