It's all well and good to have chickens in the back yard for eggs (and for pets!) but the relationship gets a little strained when the only egg in the fridge is something left over from last Easter (or was it the one before?)...
and the nest is bare...
It's Valentines Day and, like Halloween, it's not something I embrace as it's not part of my culture. It's a nice idea though. But do we need a day to tell someone we love them? Shouldn't we do that every day? Of course, but I guess some people need a little prompt. We use it as an excuse to go out for dinner together which, this year, we've booked in a couple of weeks time due to babysitter availability. But any night will do.
This morning I'm making a Valentine's breakfast for my man and the other two small loves of my life.
I wonder if those girls down the back have come through with the goods and laid an egg yet? I'll go and check....
... nope.
Of course, I would normally have done poached eggs but as I lack the integral ingredient, I've decided on pancakes. Nigella's pancakes from her Nigella Express book. All I need is ONE egg. Come on girls, deliver!
I'll get on with the dry ingredients...
... and the coffees. Rod was out into the am last night after a rugby game. Coffee required.
Right, and now Rod's helping himself to some toast as we're getting HUNGRY! I'll go and check the egg factory again....
.... two on the pop! Push! Tummies are a rumblin' up in the homestead.
... much time has lapsed, we are weak with hunger. I have managed to use the last of my energy to crawl down the back and check those good for nothing roasts in feathers.
HOORAY! They have saved themselves, but only just.
In the end I decided to double the mixture so 2 eggs were just what I needed.
Well, lets call this 'brunch', as it's now 10.30am. We're in no hurry, a lazy day at home is planned and we're off to a good start.
Now, what's for lunch?
