So I've mentioned that Rod and I went to Melbourne last weekend and I showed you some photos of a beautiful edible garden. Well, there were more than just gardens to eat and enjoy. Why are Melbourne cafes and restaurants better than.. well, anywhere else? Yes, I've had great meals in Sydney and Brisbane, but Melbourne just gets it. Simple, good quality food cooked well and served without fuss.
(Allow me to deviate here and explain the HORRID nachos that was forced upon me in the Gold Class cinema in Brisbane last night. How can you go wrong with a few corn chips, some beany mince, cheese, sour cream and avocado? HOW!!!????? For a start the whole dish was COLD, the corn chips where greasy, the mince had a flavour to it that I can't quite put my finger on (and wouldn't, even if confronted by it), and the avocado/ guacamole can only be described as tasteless, khaki slime. Secondly, it cost $18.00. Disappointment reigned. I just don't understand how one human being, with taste buds of their own, could possibly give another person something like that to eat and then charge good money for it. How? Why? Gold Class it was not.)
Anyway, glad thats out of my system. I'll help you get over the nachos visual by showing you this... this will make it all better...
Oh yeah. Eggs Benedict, breakfast of kings. Thanks, Melbourne.
And what about this?
That, Kitchen Hands of the Gold Class cinema, is an AVOCADO. Not the greenish substance I was given last night.
Eggs and avocado. What a match.
Washed done with great coffee.
Yes, we did get strange looks from other patrons as we photographed our food. Yes we did.
But we didn't really care during our afternoon of wine tasting here...
Followed by dinner at MoMo Restaurant a two hat restaurant with a Moroccan inspired menu. A. MAZE. ING. Rod ordered the Veiled Quail which was awarded Dish of the Year by The Age Good Food Guide. Rod awarded it Dish of a Lifetime. Gold Class it was.
I'll be back, Melbourne, I'll be back...
