Ok, here's the answer to the question you've all been asking, 'What else can I do at night when the kids are in bed and the TV is in Spanish? What else but write to my blog?'. We are apartment bound when the children are asleep and we can't take advantage of the great restaurants, tapas bars, wine bars... 'humph' is all I can say. But as a wise terminator robot once said, I'll be back. And so will Rod. With me. We'll come back together.
Don't get me wrong, being here with the kids is fantastic too!
Yesterday I was concerned that I'd miss out on seeing this... (I didn't take this photo, I found it here)...
The Palau de la Musica, a music concert hall which conducts tours on the half hour and I couldn't see it fitting into our plans. But then Rod gave me a window and took the kids to the park for a couple of hours leaving me with some free time. I got to the front of the building and took this...
...but no further as tours finish at 3.30pm and it was 4 ish!!! The realisation struck me... I still had a couple of hours to myself... what to do?
Food markets...
...where I picked up a few items and headed back to the apartment to cook dinner for my family. They were still at the park so I opened the double windows, poured myself a glass of wine and turned the stove on.
Yes, Wibbly has come along for the ride. And, what! All we get is a view of an old wall! Ripped off! Well, actually, it's an old ROMAN wall. 1600 years old. A VERY old wall.
Yes, thats a plaque on it stating it's origins. It's not just any old old wall. Yet locals walk past as if it's just a wall separating one area from another. Which, I guess, it is, it's just been doing that for over a thousand years. Unbelievable. Completely mind boggling.
The city I live in just celebrated it's 150th year of being Brisbane which actually isn't that long ago, really, when you think about that wall outside our apartment.
More of Barcelona to explore tomorrow....
