Sleepless in Seattle? No. Overwhelmed in Barcelona, that's me. I think I need to live here for a while. I need to look into all of the nooks and crannies, laneways and courtyards, spires and steeples. There's too much to take in over 3 days with 2 children.
Why is it day light until after 9.00pm in Spain? My children are like chooks, when it's dark, they sleep, and our apartment has very fine curtains. There's no way of pretending it's dark, and convincing them it's bedtime. I've decided to give in and let them take themselves off to bed, no arguments that way and they are POOPED so fall asleep immediately! We walk them hard ALL DAY, ignoring all complaints and whinging and whining. Oh there's been tears spilt down the Barcelona main drag from my two but we haven't given up and the icecream reward at the end of the day shines like a crack of light in their otherwise dark tunnel. TOUGHEN UP, YOU LOT!
Having said that, they are going great and following where we lead in good spirits, mostly.
BARCELONA!
I've done assignments on buildings in Barcelona. Buildings like this one...
The roof tiles are designed to look like dragon scales.
Why don't we design dragon scale roofs these days?! Why!?
The amazing Antoni Gaudi designed this and other famous buildings in Barcelona. The most famous being the Sagrada Familia, a church he designed and started in 1882 and it's still not finished. He devoted 40 years of his life to it knowing that it would take several generations to complete his vision. When asked if it bothered him that it would take so long he said that he was lucky enough to have a very patient client. Jesus has all the time in the world to wait for this to be built for him.
It's HUGE and so intricate! The tiny detailing is amazing.
It is now entirely funded by donations and tourist tour fees and is expected to be finished in 2030. They say to see it is to watch the next Wonder of the World being created. It's truly a spectacle. Bigger and grander and crazier than you would ever imagine. Gaudi was a genius.
I'm thrilled to be here and have 2 more full days left to explore. I'm lovin' it.
And want to move here, with a nanny.
